On Thursday August 25, 2016 TBT Engineering Limited pledged its support to area Aboriginal youth by signing on to Champion this year’s Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program – aimed at mentoring young people in the region towards their career aspirations. The $5,000.00 funding by TBT Engineering will help lead the way for 20 Aboriginal youth to get leadership training in Northwestern Ontario.

TBT Engineering President, Rob Frenette, had the following comments on Thursday, “TBT Engineering believes in the Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program. Our company works in the north and recognizes the significance of mentoring and training our local young people. It is very important to recruit closer to home and to play our part in building capacity in the region for young people to succeed at all levels.”

Over the past year TBT Engineering has continued to expand its operations, hiring additional staff from within the local population and now has a full-time workforce which exceeds 180 employees. The company anticipates future growth and has identified that a skilled labour shortage would have an impact on our local economy, which is why they felt strongly about supporting this initiative.

If you know of other area businesses that would like to assist Leadership Thunder Bay with this year’s Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program, we ask that you direct them to:  http://www.leadershiptb.com/

New Gold Mine Bringing Economic Turnaround To The Northwest!

New Gold has yet to mine an ounce of gold from the site under development located 420 kilometres west of the city but it’s already had a $70-million impact on Thunder Bay’s economy.

Twenty-seven local firms have successfully bid for contracts to construct and supply New Gold’s Rainy River project. The lion’s share of the local impact goes to EKT90, which will be constructing the mine’s on-site gold mill.

Other companies are providing a spectrum of goods and services, from roads and highways to power line management, propane, fabricated products, as well as health and safety equipment.

Some local companies have been waiting for the mining market to rebound for a generation while others continue to adapt to changing marketplace and expand their offerings.

TBT Engineering was founded in 1995, more than a decade after Northwestern Ontario’s last significant industrial developments were built. It survived through the prolonged regional recession in the energy sector by pursuing hydrological, wind and solar projects.

TBT Engineering president Rob Frenette said the New Gold development is an “unprecedented” opportunity to shift and expand his company’s focus to add mining infrastructure to its portfolio.

The company’s expertise makes up a 40 per cent share of the Ozaanaman Engineering consortium, a partnership with Fort Frances-based Saulteux Consulting & Engineering along with partners in Naicatchewenin and Rainy River First Nations.

TBT Engineering is leveraging its long-standing expertise in civic and energy infrastructure as it evolves into the region’s new mining era. Greenstone Gold contracted the company to route the highway south of Geraldton in 2011, it has studied aggregate at the Hammond Reef project and expanded transmission lines into Goldcorp’s Red Lake mine.

Frenette believes the prospect of building infrastructure north of Ontario’s existing roads and power lines will drive new demand that will fuel Thunder Bay companies.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2016 TBT ENGINEERING participated in the 2016 Heart & Stroke Big Bike Campaign to raise both funds and awareness for those affected by heart disease. 29 staff members embarked on a sunny 16-minute bike ride which took us from the Best Western (DAYS INN) around Confederation College and onto the Harbour Expressway for the final leg of our journey! We were motivated to return to this worthwhile campaign by the knowledge that we were riding to raise money for those affected by heart disease and the hope that our contribution would help to save a life. By the end of the campaign, TBT Engineering and its staff raised just under $4,000.00 for Heart and Stroke research.

A great team effort; Thank you to all those who sponsored us as well as our riders!

On Friday. May 6, 2015 TBT Engineering participated in the 20th Anniversary of “Spring Up to Clean Up”, a month-long initiative funded by City of Thunder Bay and delivered by EcoSuperior.  The goal of the event was to bring residents and businesses outside to pick up litter and help make our city clean, green and more beautiful.  Staff from various divisions of TBT Engineering gathered outside the main office on Yonge Street, as well as at other locations on Harold Cres., Syndicate Ave., Balmoral St. and spent 30 minutes cleaning up the grounds around their respective offices, as well as the adjoining green spaces.   In total we collected approximately twenty bags of garbage (and yes, even an automobile bumper) and immediately noticed the benefits of this yearly event in keeping Thunder Bay beautiful.  The afternoon was capped with an employee BBQ to reward all those who came out to lend a hand!

Tonya Muchano, an employee of TBT Engineering, is very excited to announce the upcoming launch of her first published book, and would like to extend an invitation to the entire community to attend the Official Launch.

The book, Animal Tracks, is an early reader storybook that follows two children who get lost in the bush behind their grandparents’ house.  They use their imagination and ingenuity, with help from the animal tracks they discover along the way, to find their way home.

The Official Launch will be held this Thursday evening from 7-9pm at the Mary J L Black library. Tonya will be on hand doing a ‘Storytime’ style reading, talking a bit about the book and the entirely local publishing process.

There will also be some thematic activities for children, refreshments and nut-free snacks. And of course, books available for purchase.

Congratulations Tonya on your first published book… from Everyone at TBT Engineering Limited!
